Dead Sea Traveler Tips

In addition to being the lowest place on Earth (at 430 meters below sea level), the Dead Sea is known for its rich minerals and restorative properties. Its hypersaline water is 9.6 times saltier than the ocean, allowing visitors to lay back, float, and relax.

While it is, without a doubt, one of the most famous attractions in Israel, there are a few key pieces of advice we always give travelers before they dive in.

Do...

Bring water shoes

The rocks and salt at the bottom of the sea can be sharp.

Find mud for a DIY spa treatment (or buy it from a nearby gift shop!)

It is like a face mask for your entire body.

Don't...

Shave for a few days before

The water can irritate sensitive skin...similar to pouring salt water over a cut.

Get your face wet

The salt water can irritate the skin on your face and get in your eyes. Also, remember to not rub your eyes if your hands have been in the water.

Wear jewelry

The sea can damage jewelry (oxidization--yikes!) so remember to remove all jewelry ahead of time to prevent your silver from turning black.

I hope you have as much fun as I did!
