Cheap and Easy Vegetarian Lunches in Tel Aviv

I am constantly surprised and delighted by the protein-packed, meat-free meal options here in Israel. Fruits and vegetables in Israel are especially fresh, tasty and affordable and I love the how Israeli cuisine uses copious amounts of eggplant, chickpeas and fresh local dairy.

A few of my favorite spots in the Tel Aviv area for lunch:

Sabich Frishman

Frishman 44, Tel Aviv-Yafo

Sabich is an Iraqi Jewish pita sandwich stuffed with fried eggplant, eggs, hummus, tahini, Israeli salad, and other insanely delicious veggies and spices. This Sabich spot is ridiculously tasty and I love making mine extra spicy.

Hippo Organic Falafel

Ibn Gabirol Street 64, Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel

A healthy twist on Israeli comfort food right across from Rabin Square. I love the falafel here and it is served on a whole wheat pita with plenty of veggies.

Hummus Abu Hassan

Ha-Dolfin St 1, Tel Aviv-Yafo

Think hummus can't be a full meal? Think again. Located in Jaffa, Abu Hassan is well known as one of the best hummus spots in the Tel Aviv area and it is not uncommon to see a line out the door--but it well worth the wait.

(be'te-avon!) בתיאבון
