Tel Aviv Markets: A Rundown
עודכן: 24 באוג׳ 2021
There are few activities more authentic to this region than visiting the shuk (market). Here you can find gifts, some of the best food in Israel, and just about anything, from clothes to watches to furniture. While Israel's most famous market is probably the Mahane Yehuda Market in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv has some world-class markets and hidden gems that should not be missed--just be prepared to haggle!
The largest shuk (market) in Tel Aviv, the Carmel Market has been a vibrant and lively market since it first opened in 1920. The shuk is a popular shopping destination for tourists and locals alike and visitors can try local foods and purchase an wide variety of goods and gifts. Definitely a quintessential Tel Aviv experience!
Jaffa Flea Market
The Jaffa Flea Market, or Shuk Hapishpishim, is an outdoor market that provides visitors with a unique cultural experience, unlike anywhere else in Israel. Visitors can purchase second-hand and artisanal goods and sample local cuisines at restaurants along the market. The market is known for it’s trendy, intimate atmosphere and great nightlife and is a fun opportunity to shop, interact with locals, and explore. We definitely recommend this one at night since it boasts some of the coolest bars and restaurants in Israel.
We consider this one a bit of a hidden gem. Levinsky Market is located in the Florentine neighborhood in South Tel Aviv. Florentine, which was established by a small group of Greek Jews in the 1930s, today boasts one of the best art scenes in Israel with incredible galleries and graffiti art (as well as a very bohemian atmosphere). This is a great stop to buy spice blends and try a wide variety of restaurants, delicatessens and bakeries.
Not really a traditional shuk but definitely worth a mention. Built in a former Templar colony, Sarona is an upscale indoor market that is often compared to Chelsea Market in New York. Known for its gourmet food hall, Sarona is an incredible place to try world-class cuisine, purchase cooking supplies and to enjoy lunch in the heart of the city.
